COSTRUIRE PONTI CON FLIP

Hi, everyone!

I’d like to share this amazing thing we did in our class of English with our teacher Catia Mele at Liceo Classico B. Telesio in Cosenza, Italy this year. It is called Flip, and let me tell you, it’s been a game-changer!

So, Flip is this app that our teacher introduced to us, and it connects us with students from all over the world. It’s like having a virtual classroom where we can interact with students from different schools and  cultures. How cool is that?

The best part is that we get to make videos on different topics. It’s not like those boring assignments where you have to follow a strict structure. Nope! With Flip, we have the freedom to let our creativity shine. We can make videos with our mobiles – from our school’s hidden corners to hilarious interviews with our friend and teachers. Some of us even put together funny skits and comedy scenes. It is all about having fun while learning!

But it is not just about showing off our creativity. We also get to learn about other people’s lives and schools from all round the world. It ‘s fascinating to see how our experiences differ, but also how we have so much in common. We’ re like explorers, discovering new things together and breaking down the walls  that separate us.

And guess what? We’re not just making videos for the sake of it. We’re actually using this as an opportunity to improve our English skills. We want to speak like native speakers, so we pay attention to our grammar, pronunciation, and how we express ourselves. We want to sound natural and confident! But above all, we try not to hurt anyone in such an intercultural setting! 

The best part of all of this is that Flip takes English beyond the classroom. It is not just a school subject anymore; it’s a way for us to connect with the world. We’ve already connected with schools in Argentina, Brazil, Georgia and the USA. And we’re not stopping there! We’re eager to keep expanding our horizons and make connections with even more countries.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds us and how far this amazing journey will take us. The possibilities are endless, and I’m so grateful to be part of it.

Ciao a tutti! 

Mi piacerebbe condividere questa avventura che abbiamo sperimentato nella nostra classe con la nostra insegnante di inglese, Catia Mele; si tratta di “Flip” e lasciate che ve lo dica, è stata una rivelazione! 

Flip è un’applicazione che ci mette in contatto con studenti di tutto il mondo. È come avere un'aula virtuale nella quale interagiamo con studenti di diverse scuole e con diverse culture. Non è magnifico? 

La parte migliore di quest’attività è che possiamo realizzare video su tanti argomenti diversi. Non è come quelle esercitazioni noiose in cui devi seguire delle regole rigide. No! Con Flip, siamo liberi di essere creativi e nel migliore dei modi. Possiamo realizzare video con i nostri cellulari: filmiamo angoli nascosti della nostra scuola, intervistiamo i nostri amici e insegnanti... Alcuni di noi hanno persino messo insieme diverse scene comiche. Si tratta di divertirsi mentre si impara! 

Ma mostrare la nostra creatività non è l’unico aspetto positivo, infatti impariamo anche a conoscere le vite e le scuole di altre persone da tutto il mondo. È affascinante vedere come le nostre esperienze differiscono, ma anche come abbiamo così tanto in comune. Siamo come esploratori, scopriamo cose nuove insieme e abbattiamo i muri che ci separano. E indovinate? Non realizziamo video solo per il gusto di farlo, ma in realtà, valutiamo ciò anche come un'opportunità per migliorare le nostre abilità nell’inglese. Vogliamo parlare come dei madrelingua, quindi prestiamo attenzione alla nostra grammatica, alla pronuncia e al modo in cui ci esprimiamo. Vogliamo sembrare naturali e sicuri! Ma soprattutto cerchiamo di non ferire nessuno in un contesto così interculturale! 

Flip porta l'inglese oltre la classe. L’inglese non è più solo una materia scolastica; è per noi un mezzo che ci connette con il mondo. Ci siamo già collegati con scuole in Argentina, Brasile, Georgia e Stati Uniti. E non ci fermeremo qui! Siamo ansiosi di continuare ad espandere i nostri orizzonti e stabilire connessioni con più paesi. Non vediamo l'ora di vedere cosa ci riserverà il futuro e fin dove ci porterà questo fantastico viaggio. Le possibilità sono infinite e siamo così grati di farne parte.

New "global perspectives" 

As we already did last year, some classes interacted with many students from "Derby High School" in Connecticut, by using the app "Flipgrid" but this year things have changed. Some students from 3B O, 3C B/C and 2C B/C with our teacher Catia Mele have interacted, still through a certain amount of videos filmed around the schools (the headquarter and the "Canossiane" building), with students from all around America, not only from Connecticut, but also with kids and teens from: Belgrano Day School (Buenos Aires); Batumi Public School (Georgia); St. Andrew's School (Rhode Island); San Isidro College, Salta Argentina and Univali Itajai (Brazil).

Students have talked through their videos, as I said before, and they have also asked and responded about their personal or school lives and their "different student habits". We have noticed some differences in the uniforms or in extra-activities or even in the disposition and order of the lessons and classes attended. As some of them have admitted: "It was a new and captivating experience!". And they have also noticed that, despite the subtle shades of dissimilarities, we have, more than ever, to preserve this "cultural exchange" through the years in order  to learn more about other people around the world and also to enhance interculture for peace. We really wish to meet all in a student exchange,  we hope it will happen in a non-distant future!
